BOJI COMPLEX CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN
Mayor and The Boji Group Announce Timeline and Lane Closures
July 9, 2002
Downtown Lansing's skyline will have a new addition beginning
next month. Cranes will mark the beginning of actual construction
for the latest development efforts at the corner of Allegan
and Townsend on the south side of the Capitol Building. Continuing
a steady pace of development activity around the city, construction
of the new Boji Complex will begin no later than August 15.
"Everything is progressing as planned and we are preparing
for significant activity this month. I cannot thank our partners,
the city of Lansing, and the Accident Fund of Michigan, enough
for their tireless efforts and patience," said Ron Boji,
President of the Boji Group.
Because of the size of the construction site, part of Townsend
and Allegan Streets will be block off to protect the public.
Barricades will be erected on or before August 15. The project
is a mix of parking, retail and office space, which will include
1,485 parking spaces and 175,000 square feet of office space
in phase one, with 70% already pre-leased. Phase two could include
another 175,000 square feet of office space. The current parking
structure at the corner of Capitol and Allegan will receive
a facelift to match the rest of the building.
"This project will add a new dimension to downtown Lansing.
With a mix of retail and commercial space, it will provide a
much needed balance to downtown," said Mayor David Hollister.
"These projects are not easy, but they are necessary in
order to make Lansing a world class city."
The Boji Complex will include a top-notch restaurant, a health
club and office tenants such as law firms, lobbying firms and
financial offices.
"I think we can create some critical mass downtown that
will help spur further development. By bringing more people
and offering upscale amenities, more people will want to be
where the action is," said Louie Boji.
"Mayor Hollister's vision is extraordinary. He has been
a tremendous leader and ally with this project. Lansing's partnership
on this project has been crucial and we are excited about this
future of downtown," said Ron Boji.
After a few weeks of site preparation, excavation will occur
and then steel and concrete construction will begin. The project
is expected to take 14 months to complete the parking structure
and 18 months to complete the office building.
